Nine students will win up to $1,500 in the 2010-2011 Annual Rotary District 5240 essay contest.  There are three categories, grade school, middle school, and high school.  Click HERE for more information.

April 8, 2011 - Local Rotary Club submits winning essays to the District.
Revised Date: May 15, 2011 - District winners will be announced to Local Rotary Clubs.

“The 4-Way Test and Me” Essay Contest
 
Nine students will win up to $1,500 in the 2010-2011 Annual Rotary District 5240 essay contest.
Students must submit an original essay on the meaning of the Rotary 4-way Test. Everyone is
included. There are three categories, grade school, middle school, and high school.
 
Entries should be submitted to the local Rotary club by no later than March 18, 2011. One winning
paper from each school level will then go to the District level for final reading by April 8, 2011.
District winners will be announced to local clubs by April 22, 2011 so they can announce the winners
and make financial awards to their schools before the end of the school year.

Essay Contest
THE 4-WAY TEST OF THINGS WE THINK, SAY OR DO
1. Is it the truth?
2. Is it fair to all concerned?
3. Will it build good will and better friendships?
4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Goal
To encourage students to think about the meaning of “The 4-Way Test.” This can be done by writing their thoughts in an essay which expresses clearly and creatively how the principles of the test impact their daily lives. Essays should be at least: 150 words for grades 1-6; 200 words for grades 7-8; and 250 words for grades 9-12.
Who
All grade school (1-6), middle school (7-8) and high school (9-12) students are eligible.
Awards: (1st, 2nd, and 3rd at each level: grade school, middle school, high school)
First Place $250
Second Place $175
Third Place $75
Winners (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) from each division will be selected by a district review team for the listed cash award. The cash awards will be distributed by the club president or by a representative from the District.
Schedule
Each club should conduct its own contest to be completed by Friday, March 18, 2011. Schools
in the local area of the club should be invited to participate with students at each school level
providing essays. The club team will then select one winning paper from each school level: one
grade school winner, one middle school winner, and one high school winner.
