Downtown Ventura Rotary Club donates to Guatemala Medical Clinic

Club maintains connections with Rainforest Clinic

Ventura, CA - The Downtown Rotary Club led by President Betsy Chess, announced the second year of continued support of the remote medical clinic in central Guatemala.  The club’s International Services team is being supported this year by assistant director Marty Armstrong and member Joe Schaaf.  They will be transporting club donated medical supplies and equipment to a medical clinic in the small rural town of Santo Tomas la Union, Suchitepequez, Guatemala located 3.5 hours west of Guatemala City.  The team will be heading to the clinic Sept 23rd-26th and look forward to sharing with our fellow Rotarians the journal of our travels and how Ventura Rotarians are making a difference in rural Central America.

The clinic is run by an American physician, Zachary Self, MD, who completed his medical school at University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN and his residency training at the Ventura Family Medicine Residency in Ventura, CA.  The clinic’s doors opened in 2015 and begin providing a preferential option of accessible high quality modern healthcare to the region.
