Simi Valley Sunrise Club Honors Officer Tom Carney with a Paul Harris Fellow
In Appreciation for His Work Within Simi Valley
Simi Valley, CA -- Simi Valley Police Officer Tom Carney was recognized recently as a Paul Harris Fellow in special appreciation for the ways in which his life exemplifies the humanitarian and educational objectives of The Rotary Foundation.
The Rotary Foundation is one of the largest and most important programs of Rotary. Without the Foundation, Rotary could not continue its many humanitarian programs and its efforts to promote world understanding and peace.
Named after Rotary's founder, the Paul Harris Society recognizes Rotary members and friends of The Rotary Foundation who contribute $1,000 or more. But it can also be given by a Rotarian to an individual as a recognition of exceptional service. In this way, the Paul Harris Fellow becomes an honor to the individual who receives it.Tom Carney has set an example by his many contributions to our community. Throughout his career as a Patrol Officer for the Simi Valley Police Department, as well as his personal involvement as a mentor for the Explorer Post, Tom has made our city a better place in which to live.
Tom received a Paul Harris Fellow from Jim Tokatlian at a recently held Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise meeting.
Officer Tom Carney was on duty and riding his motorcycle when he collided with a pickup that was attempting to make a turn into the path of Carney’s motorcycle. Officer Carney suffered significant head wounds, multiple fractures and internal injuries and has undergone multiple surgeries since the on-duty crash.
