As part of its Vocational Service contribution to the community, the Rotary Club of Thousand Oaks has been providing the Economic Outlook Forecast for the past 20 years. Chair of the committee, Pat McCoy, has been a significant factor in keeping the program going, and Cal Lutheran University has been a significant contributor, both in terms of venue and in terms of critically important speakers.

This year’s program was in early February. Chris Kimball, President of CLU and member of the club, welcomed all and introduced Pat McCoy, who shared some of the highlights of Rotary and why the club had put so much energy into this event year after year. Tammie Helmuth then introduced the Thousand Oaks mayor, Andy Fox and then Matthew Fienup, Executive Director of the Center for Economic Research and Forecasting at CLU.

Matthew drew a data-rich picture of the current economic situation in the county, state and country. Bruce Stensile, CEO of the Economic Development Collaborative of Ventura County, drilled down even more, including economic implications regarding the city of Thousand Oaks and the county.

Finally our understanding continued to be enriched by a panel composed of these two speakers plus former and honorary member of the TO club, Jacqui Irwin, State  Assembly member; current member Chis Lamia, CEO of Lamia Financial Group; Rick Principe, Principal of Westcord Commercial Real Estate Services; and Sumatra Sengupta, CIP Business Strategist, CLU. Each panelist shared provoking and enlightening reports and projections of the present and ongoing  economic condition.

Proof that the information was insightful to the room-filling audience was the stimulating questions that were asked of all speakers.
