For Rotarians at Work Day on April 25, 2026, the Rotary Club of Ventura put on our Rotary gear and headed to one of Ventura’s most beloved places — our pier and beach area — to serve alongside the Surfrider Foundation and more than 40 community volunteers.

Surfrider hosts the C Street Beach Clean Up monthly in this busy coastal area, a favorite for both locals and visitors. In 2025 alone, 1,256 volunteers removed 1,856 pounds of trash and 23,450 cigarette butts, helping preserve our beaches and keep debris out of the ocean.

Our Rotary group collected cigarette butts, foam, food trash, and even broken glass near the playground. This family-friendly service project also gave one member the opportunity to volunteer with her daughter, reinforcing the value of service across generations.

We chose this opportunity in anticipation of an upcoming Club Meeting where Don Maruska, Rotary District 5240 Environmental Chair will discuss with our members why Rotary should take on environmental work and share ideas for maximum impact.
