The Rotary Club of Fillmore hosted guest speaker Tim Flyn at our club 04/16/25. He gave a presentation about his experience studying abroad in Bonn, Germany, over 40 years ago. He received a scholarship from a foundation that supported his education there. During his talk, he shared stories of his adventures in a time when part of Germany was still cut off from the world. While abroad, he gained valuable skills that helped shape his future. Later in life, he went on to become a city council member in Oxnard.
As part of our ongoing programs, we also had a scheduled presentation with Edwin Verlarde, 10/20/24, whose life story left a strong impression on our club members. Edwin shared his personal journey of living with diabetes and his deep commitment to becoming involved in Rotary’s PolioPlus initiative. His determination and spirit of service were evident, reminding us all of the power of resilience and the importance of never giving up. Club members received a copy of his resume, which reflected a life dedicated to making a difference despite personal challenges.
