Rotary E-Club of One World is proud to have partnered once again with AMCIAH (Asociación Mexicana de Capacitoción en Idiomas y Ayuda Holística, AC) for the successful completion of the second Harmony Through Soccer service project.

Soccer uniforms were provided for 8-10 year old youth teams from poor neighborhoods in Cabo San Lucas, BCS in Mexico to support an ongoing gang violence prevention program that provides activities related to soccer, arts and culture.

Our partner organization, AMCIAH (Asociación Mexicana de Capacitoción en Idiomas y Ayuda Holística, AC), works directly in the neighborhoods with gangs and at risk youth.

Team uniforms were provided which invoke a sense of pride and identity that helps to divert young people from joining gangs. Playing soccer as part of an organized program also develops decision-making, including tactical decisions (who I pass to, how I position myself, or moral decisions. I can fake a foul or be honest, for example) It also teaches children or adolescents respect for their opponents.

Professional Soccer players from the Los Cabos United team joined the event and trained with the participants prior to the tournament.  Pizza and sodas were offered, and trophies were given to the teams.  Cases of violence, drugs and bullying were identified for which ongoing counseling and support will be provided.

The participants families, friends and neighbors benefit from each person who avoids gang influence through membership on a team in the community soccer program.
