There was a fantastic turnout for our annual soccer tournament -- a completely free community event our club has put on for 40 +/- years. In our area middle school students do not have a soccer conference among schools -- the only outlet for competition at that age group is club sports which many students and their families cannot afford. Seeing this gap in play, a member suggested we host a one-day event in Spring that is a bracketed tournament. We typically see a dozen schools from San Luis Obispo County and Northern Santa Barbara Counties come out for the event -- and they look forward to it every year. We supply the field, the organization, the referees, and a hot dog lunch with chips and drink for every player as well as a commemorative t-shirt, team awards and medals. Families can purchase additional lunches at cost. Our members set up and cook -- handling all of the logistics so that players and coaches can just come play!
