This April 15th will mark the Rotary Club of Carpinteria’s 14th annual Talent Showcase. Each year has been a sellout. The Rotary Club of Carpinteria partners with the Alcazar Theatre and event sponsors to raise funds in support of music education programs of the Carpinteria Unified School District.

Showcase acts have included singing, guitarists, pianists, dancers, storytelling, jugglers, magicians, comedians, ukulele bands, a cappella singers, and local school bands. Since its inception, Carpinteria’s Talent Showcase has hosted a total of 909 performers, which has included 431 kids and 93 seniors. It’s a small-town showcase that really is a big city variety show: There is something for everyone!

Historically, music program expenses served as a barrier to student participation and greatly limited the reach of School music programs. To date, over $200,000 in donations derived from the Showcase has allowed for the purchase of new and refurbished musical instruments and cases, sheet music and books, tuners and recorders, band uniforms, summer music camp scholarships, academic scholarships, and a visit to the symphony.

Recently, due to increased interest and the financial support provided by Rotary, the School District decided to hire another teacher to expand the music program into the elementary grades.

The Showcase is a win-win-win! The Carpinteria community gets a wonderful evening of entertainment; performers have an opportunity to share their music and talent; and students receive musical instruments and training that can change their lives forever!
