Youth Service Project in Celebration of Literacy and World Book Day

To celebrate Read Across America and World Book Day, Rotarians from the Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo visited Hawthorne Elementary to read to students during their library time. The books, chosen by the school librarian and focused on themes like kindness and self-confidence, were purchased by the Rotarians and gifted to the library after reading.
Here’s a look at the stories shared:
📖 The Rabbit Listened by Cori Doerrfeld – read to second graders by Connie Framberger, about the power of listening.
📖 Ruby Finds a Worry by Tom Percival – read by Erik Linkugel, sparking conversations about emotions.
📖 I Walk with Vanessa by Kerascoët – shared by Debbie Hoffman, encouraging kindness and standing up for others.
📖 Home in a Lunchbox by Cherry Mo – read by Lisa MacKenzie, telling a heartfelt story about finding belonging.
This project highlights Rotary’s commitment to youth, literacy, and service—and the joy of bringing stories to life for the next generation.
