In the true spirit of Rotary, we looked outside of our Club and joined forces with other local entities to provide a deeper, more meaningful impact for low-income families within our community during the holidays. The event is in its 5th year and continues to grow in number and scope each year.
In December 0f 2024 we served 726 children and 276 parents. This was our 4th year to co-host the event with Arise Ventura and the 5th year that it's been in existence. Holiday spirit was plentiful, and smiles stretched from ear to ear amongst the grateful families who received new coats, toys, quality time with Mr. & Mrs. Claus and his elf, received new shoes, a hot meal, a cookie, a free eye exam, free community resources, a food box to go, and more.
The payday for us as Rotarians is that we always have 1/3 or more of our membership volunteering at this event and the comradery is palpable. Our Interactors come out in full force from about 5 high schools and match us in volunteerism - Interactor for Rotarian. The Interactors have told us that this is now their favorite event. And finally, the connection with other non-profits, church groups, peace officers, service clubs and sponsors brings us together as one community and that's what Rotary is all about!
