Uganda FAST (Finance Accelerating Savings Group Transformation)
Westlake Sunrise Rotarians Dan Harutunian and Nick Frankle have been hard at work on the $800,000.00 Uganda FAST Village Savings grant that, in partnership with Vision Fund Uganda, will help the ultra-poor women of rural Uganda lift themselves out of poverty and hopelessness.
The proven FAST model by Vision Fund creates community-based savings groups that, seeded with the grant’s funds, will allow members to present business ideas, get startup funding and turn their business ideas into reality. Vision Fund Uganda helps facilitate the project by providing traveling support administrators and a mobile banking solution.

The payoff? Communities stay together and a member loan 97% repayment rate.
The Gyumri Armenia Medical Center
Gyumri, Armenia is recognized as one of the oldest cities in the world. It’s chief hospital, the Berlin Center for Mother and Child (aka Gyumri Armenia Medical Center), is the region’s primary facility for prenatal care and cancer screenings. However, their X-ray machine dates back to 1988 and is emitting a danger dose of radiation per x-ray. The Rotary Club of Gyumri and the Rotary Club of Westlake Village Sunrise have now helped the hospital buy a brand new one!
Westlake Sunrise Rotarians Caroline Ohanian and Marissa Hesler worked together with Dan Harutunian to not only create the grant, but also a community education and outreach program.
