Some children who might not have gotten a visit from the Easter Bunny will be getting a basket this year, thanks to the Rotary Club of Westlake Village.
For the third straight year the club partnered with Newbury Park-based James Storehouse, which serves children in foster care, in its mission to make and distribute 1,000 Easter baskets to children in the foster care system and others in need.
A group of about 20 people, consisting of the club members, spouses, children and friends, gathered at Stonehaus in Westlake Village on March 26 to put together 101 baskets for children of all ages. They filled each one with things like decorative grass, candy, toys, bubbles, colorings books and crayons and wrapped them for delivery.
The supplies were purchased with $500 from the club and money donated by individual club members.
Club member Gregg Schrott said it was a fun event and nice to see the Rotarians working so well together to assemble the baskets. “It shows them somebody cares about them,” he said of the children.
Chris Daleiden, the club’s community service director, who bought all the supplies and organized the event, said this was the club’s best year yet. Last year the club contributed 80 baskets
“For me, this is one of the most valuable things we do. If groups like us aren’t doing this, some kids won’t have an Easter basket,” she said.
