Our Rotary theme for September is Basic Education & Literacy!

I strongly believe in education as this is a critical piece towards the elimination of extreme poverty in the World.  When we can offer poor people the gift of education this also reduces the chances of victim abuse.

It was great to see so many clubs providing backpacks stuffed with school supplies for children in need. I had the privilege to participate at some of the backpack stuffing events. Everybody was so well organized. I loved the spirit of collaboration of Rotary Clubs coming together on this project while partnering with other organizations.

Our District is aligned with this area of focus and we have numerous clubs providing scholarships for our youth.  As the world is continually changing with access to robots and artificial intelligence, the workforce of the future will be less labor-intensive and our youth will need more years of education in order to perform more sophisticated jobs.

In August, I began my official club visits (12 out of our District total of 70).  I am so impressed with the clubs I have visited so far and how active and generous they are.  Despite all the difficult times you have found so many creative ways to continue to raise money and serve those in need. I am looking forward to meeting the other Clubs in the months to come!
