New Generations Service

Director of New Generations

LeonorLi M. Gibbs “Li”
Li Gibbs was born and raised in Spain where she spent her formative years in Barcelona, first speaking Castilian Spanish and Catalan then learning English at the age of 13. Her family moved to Manila, Philippines where Li quickly learned to speak Tagalog. Living in Manila she attended International School and Assumption College. From an early age Li traveled extensively and by the time she turned 16 her father calculated that she had traversed the globe one and a half times. She holds dual citizenship and identifies as a citizen of the world.
Li moved to the United States to finish her education when her father retired from the diplomatic core and was hired at Stanford to build the second Linear Accelerator. From there she fell in love with the beauty of San Francisco and moved to the heart of the City becoming the avid San Francisco Giants and Niners fan she is to this day.
Li has extensive background in public speaking, media, public relations and working with young people. She is also a poet and author currently working on a novel and a member of Pine Mountain Writer’s Cooperative.
Li and attorney Steve Gibbs just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. Steve is Past President of Bakersfield East Rotary Club and current District Youth Compliance Officer for 18-19. They are a close knit, boisterous outspoken family sharing a passion for culture, world events, history, politics, books, philosophy, the arts, sports and food with their two children, Alixandra, 23 and Steven 21. Time spent with them is always sure to be entertaining. They are avid fans of the San Francisco Giants and Forty Niners and Barca FC (Barcelona) soccer fans.
Li’s passion aside from gourmet cooking, writing and art is mentoring our youth. Li serves as the Youth Service Director, RYLA and Rotaract Advisor for the Bakersfield Twilight Rotary Club. She served as Area Youth Service Representative in 17-18 and help start the successful multi-award winning Interact Club at Centennial High School in Bakersfield. Li is founder and Co-Chair with husband, Steve, of Kern YES! Youth Empowerment Summit and a frequent counselor at RYLA. Li was honored as Rotarian of the Year in 2018.
Li believes that world peace can be achieved one kind act at a time, that it begins with adults emulating and mentoring our youth. Teaching them how to give back and serve their communities and building life-long habits of goodwill towards fellow humans engendering peace and hopefully one day becoming future Rotarians.
“For every youth you inspire, a mentor is born.”  - Li Gibbs
Youth Service is Rotary's commitment to the future. By encouraging, mentoring, and empowering our youth today, we are creating a legacy that will allow Rotary to continue its mission to see that all men and women of this world are given the opportunity to lead their lives in health, safety and prosperity.

Interact, Rotaract, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), and Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) are Rotary sponsored programs that allow each club within the District to structure their own unique approach to Youth Service. Rotary also sponsors Global Scholars and Peace Fellows with the aim of empowering and educating young people to give back to their communities and the world.
District 5240 has a team of very dedicated Rotarians who have all found their "Rotary Moments" in working with our youth. We are here to help, encourage, offer information, advice, all to help pave the way for new youth service clubs and help older clubs thrive.
